in Cookbook Challenge 2010

Many thanks to Iron Chef Shellie for designing the logo!

Thanks to everyone who responded to my Cookbook Challenge post. In collaboration with Kat from spatulaspoonandsaturday, Iron Chef Shellie and Agnes from offthespork we have decided to formalise the Cookbook Challenge into a structured project with 52 different themes over the next 52 weeks. We all had a go at picking some themes and then they were randomly allocated to one of the 52 weeks, except for the seasonal themes.

Here’s how the Cookbook Challenge works:
There are 52 themes over 52 weeks. The challenge is to interpret the theme whatever way you wish and cook a dish (or dishes) from one of your cookbooks related to the theme. Cooking your dish for each week starts from the date listed and you should post the results of your dish on your blog by the following Monday before the next week begins if you can. We don’t mind if you miss the deadline, just try not to get too behind! Week 1 begins on Monday 16 November 2009.

The weeks and themes are as follows:

Week 1 Monday 16/11/2009 Citrus
Week 2 Monday 23/11/2009 Indian

Some questions that I have had:
Do we need to cook every Monday or any day of the week?
The new weekly theme starts each Monday and ends on the following Sunday. You don’t have to cook specifically on the Monday, just any day during that week.

Are there any expectations of the post? Eg. are photos required during the process or just a final one, do we need to post the recipe and the source up?
It is up to the blog owners how they want to do it. Photos during the process are not necessary, but one of the final product would be good. It would also be good if you could post the recipe and source so other people can try out the recipe if they want.

Happy cooking everyone!

Over & Out, Rilsta xx

Iron Chef Shellie November 12, 2009 at 10:48 pm

I shall have to link this page up to my blog =) Thanks for organising it all Rilsta!

penny aka jeroxie November 13, 2009 at 3:02 am

NO kitchen…. so can't do it yet… Booo!

Jackie November 13, 2009 at 7:39 am

Now THIS I am looking forward to. I actually have a whole seperate bookshelf for cookbooks and a folder of recipes to try from magazines and the interwebs that is bulging out of control!

I shall be participating informally (no blog, I'm too lazy).

Jo November 13, 2009 at 8:37 am

OMG I LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea! Please count me in!! How exciting is this going to be I cannot wait… I think I will sit and read all my cookbooks this weekend (and yes it will probably take all weekend as I have that many!!)

I am looking forward to seeing everyone's interpretations!

Thanks so much for this challenge.

Rilsta November 13, 2009 at 10:00 am

Hi Arale79: Have added you! Thanks!

Hi ms s loveridge: Feel free to join in informally in the weeks that you can if you want! I'm not sure what you mean about the semi colons… I can't see anything wrong with my blog post?

Hi Kat: I know! I just hope it doesn't wane!!

Hi Shellie: No worries, thanks again for the fab logo!!

Hi penny: Do join when you get your kitchen done!

Hi Jackie: Cool! Try to post some photos of your finished recipes on Twitter even though you don't blog!

Hi Jo: Whoa! Big task to read through all your cookbooks! try and tabs those recipes you want to make and list them out so it will be easier for you! I'm looking forward to seeing people's interpretations too!

B1 @ Twinpalates November 13, 2009 at 12:00 pm

Excellent work, count me in! I might not be able to do it over 52 weeks though – can I make it a checklist (e.g knock 3 or 4 weeks over the course of one weekend?). Are there any expectations – eg are photos required during the process or just a final one, do we need to post the recipe and the source up? etc
Can't wait to see if I can tick the entire list off

Mrs Multitasker November 13, 2009 at 12:14 pm

Ahhh this is so tempting…. just wondering if I can handle it alongside my Harumi project.

Tempting tempting… Are you guys cooking every Monday, or whichever day of the week is convenient?

Rilsta November 13, 2009 at 12:26 pm

Hi B1: Thanks! Ooh, if you would like to do 3 or 4 in a weekend that's great!

Thanks for your question. I have posted the response in the main post. It is up to the blog owners how they want to do it. Photos during the process are not necessary, but one of the final product would be good. It would also be good if you could post the recipe and source so other people can try out the recipe if they want.

Hi Mrs Multitasker: Thanks for your question, I have posted the answer in the main post, but basically you can cook on any day during that week. Join if you have the time! That way you can use your other cookbooks!

Maree November 13, 2009 at 2:20 pm
